Dr. Amylou Ahava is a film scholar, writer, and professor whose work explores the intersections of horror, disability studies, race, gender, and colonialism. Their research centers on the concept of “forced disabling,” examining how horror media reflects and critiques systems of power and marginalization (soon to be a docuseries entitled Making Our Monsters). Currently, they are working on a scholarly book project, Wheelchairs in Horror, as well as multiple academic chapters and journal articles that analyze disability and representation across horror media.
They are also the creator and EIC of ProfessorHorror.com, a growing platform dedicated to horror criticism with a focus on underrepresented voices in genre media. Through reviews, festival coverage, and critical essays, their work engages both independent and mainstream film. Amylou has always dreamed of being a horror host when they grew up, but for now will live as a film and writing professor.
