New from The HoloFiles from Josh and George Bate: Andor Timeline Explained – When Is It Set?

By Josh Reilly B.

With Obi-Wan Kenobi’s conclusion, the next Star Wars series on the horizon is Andor, which debuts at the end of next month with a two episode premiere. Starring Diego Luna in the title role, that he first played in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in 2016, Andor is a prequel that will go into the character’s origins that were left largely unexplored in the spinoff outing.

Rogue One was set just prior to A New Hope, meaning that Andor is situated in between Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV. There are some clues to this time setting, which is a period of transition for the galaxy, in the first trailer as clone troopers can be seen alongside the Imperial senate, which was dismantled in A New Hope as Palpatine believed that the Death Star was enough to keep the different star systems in line.

At Star Wars Celebration in May, showrunner Tony Gilroy revealed that the first season will take place five years before Rogue One, to be exact. This leaves Andor four years after Obi-Wan Kenobi, 14 years after Revenge of the Sith, and 14 years before The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett.

More recently, in an interview with Empire Magazine, Gilroy stated that the second season, which will take the series right up to Rogue One, will again consist of twelve episodes and every three will cover one year. It seems that the second outing, which will begin filming later this year, will move at a faster pace in the timeline than the first.
