The venerable Aunjanue Ellis sat down with me to discuss her latest film The Subject, which comes out on VOD and in select theaters on October 22. In the film, Ellis plays a role that we’ve all seen before–that Black mom grieving the murder of her son Malcolm (played by Nile Bullock). However, Ellis talks about how The Subject allowed her the chance to take that trope and breathe some power into it. She essentially weaponized that grief to become a terrifying nightmare for the man who won awards for the film about Malcolm’s death.
There are a few soft spoilers in the interview, but none that will take away from the viewing experience. Check out the interview. then Like and subscribe to the Black Cape Media Youtube page.
