The promise of a movie with martial arts legends Tony Jaa, Tiger Hu Chen, and Iko Uwais, fighting in any capacity, it instantly has my attention. Jaa, who made a name for himself with the Ong-Bak series and Uwais who bursted on the scene with the groundbreaking films The Raid: Redemption and The Raid 2, are two skilled warriors, keeping the martial arts action movies alive. Even Tiger Chen, the lesser known of the three, made a name for himself, with his excellent kung-fu style as the stunt coordinator for The Matrix trilogy. So you could understand how incredibly disappointed I was when Triple Threat lacked in almost everything I came to see: impressive action and hand-to-hand combat. Instead, director Jesse V. Johnson likes to tease us with the idea of an awesome action movie. Triple Threat is over the top violent, lacking in any cinematic skills, and a massive disappointment.
