New from Solzy at the Movies by Danielle Solzman: TIFF 2018: Touch Me Not

While it’s not for everyone, Touch Me Not is a documentary that examines intimacy in the way one handles their own sexuality.

What director Adina Pintilie is trying to do here is get some sort of emotional response from her subjects.  There’s three main subjects.  Another one is a transgender woman who uses her experience in sex work as a form of therapeutic exercises.  There’s a lot of exploration of sexual identity featured within the film.  If you’re not a fan of sexual kinks, this film is not for you.

Maybe it’s because of my own repressed sexuality over the years but to put it simply, I was not a fan of Touch Me Not.  As it goes with anyone, how I responded to this film is going to be different than somebody else.

DIRECTOR:  Adina Pintilie
FEATURING:  Laura Benson, Tomas Lemarquis, Christian, Bayerlein, Grit Uhlemann, Adina Pintilie, Hanna Hofmann, Seani Love, Irmena Chichikova, Rainer Steffen, Georgi Naldzhiev, Dirk Lange, Annett Sawallisch

Touch Me Not holds its North American premiere at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival in the Discovery program.  Kino Lorber is planning a 2019 release.
